Cannington Haunted Trail and Barn is very optimistic to open in 2021 in accordance with the Government of Ontario’s reopening plan.  We have been eagerly preparing for this year’s event and ensuring the best possible safety practices for our customers and volunteers. All volunteers and visitors will be required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing at all times.  Hand sanitizer stations will be at all entrances (gate and attractions) and portable bathrooms will be disinfected frequently. Staggered entry times have been applied to our online ticket sales.  Groups will be limited in numbers going through the attractions and spaced out appropriately. BEFORE YOU ARRIVE:  Make sure you purchase your tickets online.  We are doing our best to adhere to the distancing regulations and do not want to crowd our entry area.  You will be screened upon arrival.  Anyone with signs/symptoms of COVID will be denied entry. Now Hiring — Construction Crew

Cannington Haunted Trail and Barn is looking to contract an insured construction crew (4-6 workers) for setup and teardown of our 2021 event.  You will need to commit to 2 dates:  Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 31, 2021.  Location:  MacLeod Park, Cannington. Setup Transport 26 4×10 panels from barn to picnic pavailion (200 ft distance) and board up exterior of shelter Transport all required building materials, fencing and large props from barn to various sites on trail Assemble archway at beginning of trail Assemble ticket booth at gate Assemble 4 scene sets (simple sets made of pallets and/or panels) Set up and secure row of fencing (50 ft) on trail Teardown Disassemble exterior of pavilion, archway, ticket booth and sets Bring all materials and props from trail/gate to barn If interested, please send your company bio and references, along with your $ bid to:  acanavan705@gmail.com...

A Haunting We Will Go

It was like a scene from a horror movie.  From the window of my hotel room, I could see the streets below filling up with zombies … monsters … aliens … I would have feared  the city was under attack, if I wasn’t excitedly applying latex flesh wounds to my own skin. Each spring, over 3500 people attend the Midwest Haunters Convention (MHC), “the largest Halloween Show of its kind in the US serving Haunted Attraction Industry professionals and enthusiasts.”  The three-day convention features educational seminars, workshops, a trade show room with over 100 vendors, chartered bus tours to top-rated haunted attractions in the area, and plenty of entertainment.  Presented by TransWorld Trade Shows and Netherworld Haunted House, the convention returns to the Greater Columbus Convention Centre this June 10-12, 2016 for its 13th year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gzzmx2b0dE Representatives from the Cannington Haunted Trail were thrilled to attend this convention for the very first time last year, and are excitedly making plans to attend in 2016.  I can honestly say that this event will change the way you think about running a haunt, whether you are a home haunter or professional/charity haunt.  Based on my experience of last year’s convention, here are my Top 5 Reasons to Attend MHC. Networking Where else can you share three consecutive days and nights with fellow haunters, experts in the field and haunt-related vendors?  There were so many opportunities to meet others in the industry, share stories and experiences, ask questions and get answers and advice.  From the educational seminars, tradeshow and organized social events, to off-time outside of the convention centre … networking opportunities were everywhere.  Connections were made and lasting friendships were formed. Educational Seminars Over 35 educational sessions were offered at reasonable rates over the three days.  Topics included (but were not limited to) prop and set building, business plan writing, makeup and special effects, marketing, costume distressing, animation design and scare tactics.  We took advantage of the educational seminars that were offered to learn best practices in the industry and to get ideas of new products and trends.  Most of the presenters are veteran haunt owners and/or well-known gurus who are happy to share their expertise and personal experiences with others. Tradeshow WOW.  All I can say is WOW.  I was completely in awe of the variety of professional vendors showcasing high-quality masks, costumes, props, makeup, special effects, apparel, lighting, signage, and sound effects.  We purchased a high quality fog machine and juice from Froggy’s Fog, dark attraction lighting from Gantom Lighting and some hanging heads from Eville J’s Creepy Closet. The Maze was A-MAZE-ING!

One of the goals for our 2014 event was to create a second attraction to add to the ever-popular Haunted Trail.  With a very generous sponsorship from Pefferlaw Peat, a ton of plywood and bracing generously donated by ICF Central Providers Cannington, 5 cans of paint, 200 feet of industrial plastic, and hours and hours of labour, MANIC MAZE came to life.  This intense scare attraction was a huge success!  Screaming, loud noises and banging could be heard far beyond the walls of the maze and, surprising (or perhaps not surprisingly!), many guests were too frightened to even enter.  Well then … you have an entire year to build up your courage.
